HEROES at the H2020 Battery Projects Clustering Workshop, ONLINE

On 17 and 18 November 2021, the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency organised a clustering event gathering different H2020 projects focusing on battery technologies.

The event opened on Wednesday with a policy contextualisation delivered by DG ENER, DG RTD and DG GROW. Batteries are a topic that can currently trigger discussions on all three portfolios: their central role on supporting the energy transition, the need for specific research in order to make them able to take this role, and the opportunities that Europe can obtain from becoming a competitive actor in the global battery scene.

A total of 35 projects participated at the event. HEROES was presented by our coordinator, Turi Kvame Lorentzen, at the end of the first day. The second day of the event hosted different blocks of parallel sessions, focusing on different battery-related topics such as recycling, sustainability, life cycle assessment, novel chemistries, management systems, testing standardisation.

Clustering events represent an important asset for EU-funded research and demonstration projects, offering the European Commission an overview of the progress and projects the opportunity to establish synergies with each other.
